Assistant Cheesemaker

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Cheesemaker to join our team in Somerset. We are looking for someone to work alongside our dedicated and enthusiastic team who make our internationally renowned, award winning cheeses.

Salary: £22,000 per annum plus accommodation

Your role: As assistant cheesemaker, you will be part of a small team, helping in the day to day production of Cheddar and Ogleshield, with the opportunity to grow and develop new dairy products within the business.

Alongside making the cheese, responsibilities will include:

  • Cleaning and Hygiene
  • Care of the cheeses during maturation
  • Preparing orders
  • Record keeping

Working hours for this position are 40 per week which will include some weekend and bank holiday hours with further opportunity to work overtime. The job will mostly require starting early with an early finish, which may vary depending on the daily tasks.

About you: Cheese making experience is not essential as training will be given to the successful candidate. A food hygiene certificate would be helpful but not required at first.

A high attention to detail and positive work ethic is a must for this role. Some heavy lifting is part of the job, so you will need to be physically fit, with a high standard of personal hygiene and cleanliness.

Location: North Cadbury is a small village offering the amenities of a primary school, shop and public house. It is close to the A303 with the nearby towns of Castle Cary and Yeovil easily accessible.

Skilled Tractor Driver/Sprayer Operator

Skilled operator required to replace a current operator returning to his family farm, in a team of three on the arable side of an established 1500 acre mixed farm in Somerset. This team carries out all the tractor work on 900 acres of cropping and for two herds of 200 dairy cows each.

The candidates duties will particularly involve all aspects of the practical management of 150 acres of potatoes, operating a Fendt 718 tractor on a Grimme harvester and planter, as well as spraying with a Househam 3000 24m sprayer.

The successful candidate needs to have:

The ability to organise labour teams and prioritise work schedules is an advantage
Good workshop skills and experience of practical repairs is important
PA1 and PA2 a necessity
Material handler licence a necessity

A recently modernised 4 bedroom house in the very well serviced and friendly village of North Cadbury is available if appropriate for the successful applicant.

We are offering a very competitive package. The salary starting rate for this role is £35k per annum. This will be significantly increased if the option of accommodation is not required.
